116 pairs of school shoes.

In partnership with TT Group, the Foundation distributed 116 pairs of school shoes to boys and girls in need.

The challenge

A learner without school shoes does not simply feel uncomfortable. They may stay home, or sit at the back and avoid being noticed. Over a term, those days add up to lost learning and lost confidence.

School essentials are easy to overlook. They are also part of the conditions that make participation and dignity possible.

The intervention

In partnership with TT Group, the Lerato Bodibe Foundation distributed 116 pairs of school shoes to learners in need, providing footwear to both boys and girls.

The point is never the shoes. It is a learner who is present, included and able to learn.

The partnership

The initiative was made possible by TT Group. The Foundation has also marked Nelson Mandela International Day with school-shoe and dignity-product drives, supported by volunteers and contributors including Africentric and Nkabi Records.

The outcome

The documented delivery is 116 pairs of school shoes. Changes in attendance or academic achievement would require separate evidence, and we do not claim them without it.

What’s next

We want school-essentials support to become a recurring programme, coordinated with the schools we work with so that support answers a clearly understood need.

How you can help

A company or group of colleagues can sponsor school essentials for a class or a whole school, and individuals can give to our Education fund.
